Hannah Zakari 2019 Christmas Gift Guide – Fruits and Flowers!

By

Christmas Gift Guide – jewellery, stationery, art and accessories inspired by nature!

There’s a lot to love about winter. Crisp days, snow, mulled wine by a roaring fire, and of course – Christmas! One thing we don’t love, though, is the loss of all the beautiful flowers and fruit that fill our gardens in summer. If you know any keen gardeners or nature lovers, they might be feeling the same thing! That’s why we’ve created this Christmas gift guide full of colourful fruit and flower themed gift ideas. Help them to recapture the vibrancy of summer with a gorgeous flower necklace or a fun pair of fruit earrings!

The pieces below have been created by independent artists, and a gift bought from them is also a great way to support small business this Christmas while getting your loved ones something really unique! In the run up to the 25th we’ll be publishing a few of these gift guides to show off our favourite pieces by indie designers and hopefully give you some fresh gift ideas.

Here are a few of our favourite fruit and flower pieces in the shop right now:

Introducing… Julia de Klerk!

Statement Floral Jewellery by Julia de Klerk!

Flowers are fabulous, don’t you think? Flower themed jewellery is always a favourite here at Hannah Zakari. Evocative of fresh spring days, it’s colourful, fun and versatile. Our love of all things floral means that we’re thrilled to introduce our newest designer to the shop: Julia de Klerk! Her delightful flower earrings and necklaces are a fresh twist on a timeless classic, and we think you’ll love her bold style.

Julia de Klerk’s jewellery is handmade from frosted acrylic in a range of bright colours. She adds texture and detail to these quirky pieces with hand etched patterns. The acrylic is heated then gently shaped into curved petals by hand, which gives them a depth rarely seen in acrylic jewellery. We love their unique 3D look!

The inspiration behind de Klerk’s jewellery comes from tropical foliage, Scandinavian design and retro floral patterns. The designer is a graduate of Goldsmiths, University of London, and now lives and works in Hampshire.

Here are some of the Julia de Klerk pieces we’re loving right now!

Cosy Up with Miss Pom Pom!

Colourful scarves and winter accessories by new designer Miss Pom Pom!

It’s officially Autumn in Edinburgh, and the chill is already taking hold! I love this time of year: crisp leaves, cold air, Halloween and of course, knitwear. Because the best thing about the cold is wrapping up against it, and doing it in style!

Our newest designer at Hannah Zakari is helping us do just that. Miss Pom Pom is an independent knitted accessory maker whose fun, Memphis inspired graphic knits are brightening up the shop (and our necks) right now. These oversized knits are as cosy as they are colourful, being made from a thick and super soft acrylic yarn! The bold, graphic scarves and chunky hats are a perfect match for each other. They’re a welcome antidote to the idea that Winter dressing should be less colourful!

All Miss Pom Pom’s scarves and hats are vegan and hypoallergenic, a plus for anyone who needs to stay warm while avoiding wool! Check out our collection of their goodies here:

Introducing – ANO Studio

New Risograph Prints by ANO Studio – Dreamy Urban Landscapes

A close up view of an ANO Studio Risograph print. A red haired girl stares at a pink shrimp held between chopsticks.

This collection of riso prints by ANO studio captures the complex spirit of city life. With towering buildings, lonely rooms, bustling streets and empty malls, these urban landscapes feel simultaneously busy and eerily quiet. They cleverly explore the idea of loneliness (or serenity) in the crowd!

ANO Studio is a brand new designer to Hannah Zakari, and we are absolutely in love with their work. ANO is the sole creation of Hannah Kay Piché, an independent designer and illustrator based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Her inspiration comes from travel and geometric forms, with a clear influence from Japanese design. The studio’s name is also inspired by Japan: “ano” is a pronoun in Japanese, roughly translating to “that thing over there”.

ANO’s risograph prints are printed in a harmonious pink and blue colour palette using soy-based inks.

ANO Studio’s risograph prints are all produced in a limited edition of 25 and stock is very limited, so get in there if you’d like one for your home! They look great either alone or paired together.

Up Your Pin Game!

By
Hannah Zakari has the cutest pins and patches – have you upped you #pingame yet?!

Have you ever bought a new jacket purely because you’ve run out of space for lapel enamel pins on the old one? Installed a cork board on your wall not for keeping track of paperwork, but for displaying the many enamel badges you’re not currently wearing? Spent your last tenner before payday on a cute new pin you just HAD to have, even if it meant eating instant noodles for dinner three days in a row?

If so, then you have joined the ranks of the Flair Addicts; and you’re in good company. These tiny wearable artworks have been becoming exponentially more popular over the last couple of years, and here at Hannah Zakari we’ve been gradually building our collection to keep up. I don’t think it’s any exaggeration to say that our selection has become pretty enviable!

We love enamel pins because they’re a great, affordable way to get hold of some quality work by our favourite indie designers. With so many different designs available, there really is something for everyone. Here’s a few suggestions to get your collection started:

This pristine poodle by Stay Home Club will smarten up your lapel.

Or if cats are more your thing, how about this adorable artistic kitty by Bel’s Art World?

This stunning origami deer brooch by Hug A Porcupine is sure to appeal to the wild at heart.

With such a diverse range of pins out there, your problem is less likely to be finding one you like than choosing between the many you want! Might be time to buy that new jacket…
