Cosy Up with Miss Pom Pom!

By

Colourful scarves and winter accessories by new designer Miss Pom Pom!

It’s officially Autumn in Edinburgh, and the chill is already taking hold! I love this time of year: crisp leaves, cold air, Halloween and of course, knitwear. Because the best thing about the cold is wrapping up against it, and doing it in style!

Our newest designer at Hannah Zakari is helping us do just that. Miss Pom Pom is an independent knitted accessory maker whose fun, Memphis inspired graphic knits are brightening up the shop (and our necks) right now. These oversized knits are as cosy as they are colourful, being made from a thick and super soft acrylic yarn! The bold, graphic scarves and chunky hats are a perfect match for each other. They’re a welcome antidote to the idea that Winter dressing should be less colourful!

All Miss Pom Pom’s scarves and hats are vegan and hypoallergenic, a plus for anyone who needs to stay warm while avoiding wool! Check out our collection of their goodies here:

Festival Fun Times!

August is Edinburgh Festival time at Hannah Zakari!

We’re lucky all year round to live in Edinburgh, but in August it’s a whole other level! The city is totally transformed by street performers, pop up venues, weird and wonderful sights, and lots and lots of visitors. It’s a wild time to call this city home!

The Edinburgh Festival is nearly over now, so it feels like a good moment to step back and think about all the things that make this time of year unique.

The Fun

The Edinburgh Festival brings a whole new energy to the city! The party atmosphere spills out onto the streets and makes the whole area feel alive. Here are a few party favourites from Hannah Zakari to add some quirky glitz to your night out:

Symbolic Statement Jewellery by Rosita Bonita

A delivery of Rosita Bonita jewellery is a special occasion at Hannah Zakari! This British designer’s sumptuous handmade designs are glamorous and distinctive. She makes her jewellery from leather, which she prints with her original illustrations in shiny foil. The resulting jewellery is distinctive and stunning! These glamorous pieces are perfect for special occasions, or for creating a talking point in your everyday look.

Rosita Bonita’s designer Rowenna Harrison is inspired by folklore, spirituality, mythology and vintage glamour. We especially love her pieces based on the mystical ouroboros, the snake eating its own tail, which symbolises infinity and enduring love! Introducing – ANO Studio

New Risograph Prints by ANO Studio – Dreamy Urban Landscapes

A close up view of an ANO Studio Risograph print. A red haired girl stares at a pink shrimp held between chopsticks.

This collection of riso prints by ANO studio captures the complex spirit of city life. With towering buildings, lonely rooms, bustling streets and empty malls, these urban landscapes feel simultaneously busy and eerily quiet. They cleverly explore the idea of loneliness (or serenity) in the crowd!

ANO Studio is a brand new designer to Hannah Zakari, and we are absolutely in love with their work. ANO is the sole creation of Hannah Kay Piché, an independent designer and illustrator based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Her inspiration comes from travel and geometric forms, with a clear influence from Japanese design. The studio’s name is also inspired by Japan: “ano” is a pronoun in Japanese, roughly translating to “that thing over there”.

ANO’s risograph prints are printed in a harmonious pink and blue colour palette using soy-based inks.

ANO Studio’s risograph prints are all produced in a limited edition of 25 and stock is very limited, so get in there if you’d like one for your home! They look great either alone or paired together.

Brass, Bling and Boobs – New Designers at Hannah Zakari!

By

We’ve introduced three new designers at Hannah Zakari!

I don’t want to jinx it, but I think it’s finally Spring in Edinburgh!  It’s that little bit lighter in the evenings when we close the shop, and that little bit warmer during the day (we’ve even been brave enough to leave the door open a couple of times). And in the spirit of seasonal rejuvenation, we’ve had a bit of a spring refresh of our stock! As well as new designs by longtime HZ favourites, we’ve introduced three new designers to our range: Coucou Suzette, Freya IM and Fizz Goes Pop. Here are a few of our favourite pieces from their collections!

Coucou Suzette

Coucou Suzette is a designer from Paris whose accessories channel all things kitsch and colourful. From crew socks to wall art to enamel pins, we think these fun designs make perfect gifts! Coucou Suzette’s collection includes designs based on Japanese geishas, eyes, sushi – and boobs. Lots and lots of boobs!

Fizz Goes Pop

Fizz Goes Pop is the creation of Lizzie Lafrate, a Cardiff based creative with a background in graphic design that comes across in her bold, geometric jewellery. Bright complementary colours, asymmetry and super shiny mirrored materials make these earrings fantastic statement pieces!

Freya Im

Freya Im is a designer based in Glasgow, Scotland! Her jewellery is playful and informal, designed with fun and accessibility in mind. We love her grumpy face pin badges and pendants, as well as her quirky brooches inspired by the female form. Freya makes her jewellery from brass, a more sustainable metal than either silver or gold, and encourages the wearer to embrace its natural ageing process for a unique look.
